Arc. Arts for Recovery in the Community

“ I hope to bring my ideas and experiences to ARC as it continuously develops. I feel driven to help people like myself and at ARC I get the opportunity to do so. At the same time, I get the chance to practice behaving as an adult in an adult world and it helps me to be more confident in the way I relate to others.”

Interested in what Arc has to offer?

Arc aims to be an inclusive service, so if you feel that you might benefit from participating in some of our activities please call us on 0161 474 1462 and one of our social work students will be happy to chat to you sympathetically about your interests. If you have a social worker or a support worker you may want to ask them to refer you. Or you can ask your G.P. or a friend or family member to do so. Remember, you do not need to have any previous experience of the arts, just an interest in exploring your creativity to discover what you can do. You may be surprised to find that you can be more creative than you ever thought possible!

Getting Involved

Arc's main focus is personal development, and our goal is to encourage everyone who becomes involved to meet his or her full potential.

Every year, supported and encouraged by the Arc team, over 100 participants recovering from moderate to severe emotional or psychological distress become involved in a wide range of creative activities in our spacious studios in South Reddish, from animation to creative writing, from film making to mosaic.

In so doing, participants have the opportunity to practice their social and communication skills, to be proactive as members, and help one another.

They reach out, to participate in the wider community, through partnership projects, commissions, exhibitions and publications.

Participants who have gained enough confidence and experience are invited to become mentors, to help in Pathways , our induction programme for new members.

With careful guidance and support, some eventually become volunteers, actively involved in the delivery of projects, exhibitions and commissions
